I’m in New Zealand, and was a regular tourist to see dear friends in the USA. There’s no way I will visit, let alone spend my tourist dollars there, with a fascist government in charge. I’m so sad for my friends that it has come to this, just 80 years after the Allies’ defeat of the greatest tyranny in history. So very very sad.

There are cities and places in the US that I would like to spend more than just vacation time in, but I would never move there and now I have no intention of visiting. I’m quite content to staycation in Canada.

Yes I would have difficulty and actually have some neighbors in this Apt complex! Funny thing is it’s a 55 and above and many are now realizing their safety, security, and health are at risk! It’s very scary for many!

Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that, Patricia. Do you feel overall safe and at home with your neighbors? Thanks for reading.

Oh yes as I choose not to engage and since we’re “seniors” I can still out run them!

There is zero chance of driving MAGA and taRump out of my neighborhood. Deep South part of state

Been there too. Are the flags still up, or does the landscape look friendlier now? Thanks for reading, Laura.

No there are lots of flags and bumper stickers and I don’t care. Because I posted my Harris Walz sign with some other local Democratic candidates at election time. People think he’s going to make America great. But I know the tariffs and layoffs are starting to hit and people in this community will be hurt.

I see it here in Iowa. It is gross and degrades property values. MAGA equals destruction.

Southwestern IL with few exceptions, Democrats win locally and we elected two great Democratic Senators but the MAGA US Representative of the House votes against issues that hurt his own citizens. Entrenched and a supposed leader of Veterans he does not help his community. Love to move but not leaving my state with pro Choice and issues aligned with me in support of democracy and freedom.

My town is split 50/50. I live on a state road with a 50mph speed limit and a passing lane in front. My neighbor across the street ( who’s only interaction I’ve had was when her dog slipped it’s collar and I was able to capture it so it wouldn’t get killed, of course gave her a slip lead to take the dog safely home). I don’t know them at all besides their trump flags. I have no desire to.

Because of my personal situation I don’t go anywhere except to my dr appointments and therapy appointments. PT Appointments etc.

also my sister lives here a mile away from me. She told me when she went to get a Harris sign for her yard the offices were all out. Apparently the police had been involved because people were stealing all the signs and dumping them in the woods. . Mind you no one did that with trump signs .

Signs in yards, Trump silhouettes and stickers on pickup trucks, and former friends who no longer know me - that's what has become of my little piece of the world. Sad.

I understand avoiding it if you’re safety is at risk, but we need blue individuals to “manifest destiny” these red states. As TFGs economic policies cause people to lose their farms and homes, we should be waiting to snap them up before the mega corporations.

Hi Gigi, there are definitely places and circumstances that require you to live next door to trump supporters.

I currently am living next to some. However, when given the choice, we avoid proudly MAGA environments. For us they feel quite hostile and unsafe. Thank you for reading and for sharing!

I am so saddened what my home USA has come to. Losing some family and friends as well as opportunities to live in neighborhoods of our choice. I am a Senior Senior so I lived during the Vietnam War Era, the Battle for Civil Rights. Those periods were so divisive and with so much racial and class hatred. People stood up, had enough and had young people who were willing to protest and be arrested.. Killing of President Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy... This is like being on some very depressing merry go round. But we came out of each of these events only to be caught up in another. And on...

So I am mixed on this specific question Dr Lovely posed here as why should someone else decide where I choose to live, pray, play etc... If we choose to boycott products or places that is my choice.. My neighborhood is new and has rich diversity of ages, backgrounds and yes, political views. But those that are blatantly in some other planet politically, I give no notice too. And guess what - there are many who agree with our view on our current state of politics. And we are happy here.

I went back to Mr Rogers to remember and here you go---- a couple verses.

[Bridge]

I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you

I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you

[Verse 3]

So let's make the most of this beautiful day

Since we're together, we might as well say

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

Won't you be my neighbor?

[Outro]

Won't you please

Won't you please

Please won't you be my neighbor?

Hi Jeff, it does feel really restrictive. I think it’s always a push and pull between human connection and self preservation in this highly divided political culture. I look forward to the day when I wouldn’t blink an eye at someone with different political affiliations than me.

In the meantime, another great Mr. Rogers quote:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.“

Let’s find the people who make the world a little kinder and connect with them. Thank you for reading and for sharing.
