Urgent: Minnesota Is Under Attack Again
One way to help Minnesotans today and protect all public lands in the future
As Minnesotans stand up against ICE agents, another attack is looming large over their precious community. Last week, a Republican US House Representative quietly introduced a bill that would undo protections for land around the pristine Boundary Waters, a collection of over one thousand gorgeously untouched lakes in Northern Minnesota.
For over 50 years, locals have fought against activities that would damage its environmental integrity. In 2023, massive public pressure won advocates protection against mining. It specifically eliminated a threat from a foreign mining company that wanted to conduct toxic copper-nickel mining in the Boundary Waters watershed.
The House proposal, known as H.J. Res. 140, drops all those hard-won federal protections for lands and permanently prevents bans on mining.
If this bill passes today, the implications for all of our public lands and waters are devastating. Call your House Representative now, and urge them to VOTE NO TODAY on HJ140.
Here is the US House of Representatives switchboard number: (202) 224-3121.
Shutting down this proposal is one way all of us can stand with Minnesotans who are overwhelmed with abuse and injustice right now. This is one way we become the America we want to be.
With love and hope for the future,
Stephanie
